Putin allowed the Russian Guard to have tanks in service – Kommersant

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a federal law that gives the Russian Guard the right to have heavy military equipment, including tanks, in service. Corresponding document published on the official Internet portal of legal information.

Changes that will allow the Russian Guard to have heavy equipment are being made to the law “On the National Guard Troops”. Formally, the term “weapon” in the document will be replaced by “weapons” (devices and objects designed to defeat a live or other target – a set of weapons and technical means of their use).

Also, the term “combat equipment” (the main part of military equipment intended for combat) is changed to the term “military equipment” (which means various technical means that troops are equipped with for combat and daily activities – military equipment, technical means of command and control, technical means of combat, technical and logistic support).

On June 27, after the meeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin with the security forces, the head of the National Guard Viktor Zolotov declaredthat his department will receive heavy equipment, including its own tanks.

Later, messages appeared on Telegram channels that the Russian Guard would receive equipment belonging to the Wagner PMC, since the meeting between the president and the security forces took place after the mutiny of a private military company. However, deputy Alexander Khinshtein said that the president made the decision to transfer heavy military equipment to the National Guard at the beginning of the year and this was not related to the rebellion. According to him, the Russian Guard will receive equipment under the state defense order.
