The Human Rights Council under the President of the Russian Federation (HRC) will create a working group that will deal with proposals for the repatriation of Russians from unfriendly countries. Having developed proposals, the group will submit them to the government for consideration. To study possible measures for the repatriation of Russians deported from unfriendly countries earlier instructed Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“In the current situation, we have few levers to ensure the rights of compatriots abroad. It is necessary to develop mechanisms for their repatriation home. These people are a serious resource for improving demography in our country,” said the head of the HRC Standing Commission on International Cooperation in the Field of Human Rights, Kirill Vyshinsky, following the results of an extended meeting of the commission (quote from Telegram-HRC channel).

The special correspondent of MIA Rossiya Segodnya, Alexey Stefanov, who was put on the wanted list in Latvia, spoke at the meeting. According to him, more than 40 thousand Russian citizens live in the republic, of which 25 thousand are subject to deportation.

The head of the Human Rights Council, Valery Fadeev, outlined a number of difficulties faced by Russians returning from abroad. Among these problems: the lack of loved ones and housing in the Russian Federation and difficulties with obtaining compulsory medical insurance. Mr. Fadeev also noted the impossibility of making a money transfer from Latvia to Russia, which is why compatriots returning from there face financial difficulties. The head of the HRC ordered that such bureaucratic issues be resolved before July 1.

In January, the Latvian Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs reported that 1,167 Russians were facing deportation from the country, 789 of them over 60 years of age.
