The HRC opposed the closure of the Yeltsin Center

Chairman of the Human Rights Council (HRC) Valery Fadeev spoke out against the closure of the Yeltsin Center in Yekaterinburg, but said that “it is necessary to correct the ideology there.”
“The Yeltsin Center is tougher than a short course in the history of the CPSU (b). Especially the cartoon at the beginning, where the whole history of Russia is shown as a thousand years of slavery, and then the ruler appears, all in white, and finally grants freedom, ”said Fadeev (quote according to Ura.ru).
Presumably, Fadeev meant the first president of Russia, Boris Yeltsin. According to him, in the cartoon, “all the other rulers there are presented as bad.”
May 13 for the termination of the center spoke Chairman of the Union of Cinematographers of Russia director Nikita Mikhalkov. In his opinion, the first thing “little children” who come there see is “a terrifying historical animated film about the history of our country, where all the dirt, abomination, betrayal, slavery, horror – and the light in the window is only the only person who came and changed all that.”
Mikhalkov announced the need to remake it into a museum of modern history, which will be “honest, where it will be clear why it happened, who did it, what it led to,” etc. “This does not mean that there should not be a museum of the first president of Russia, by no means, but don’t make me, as a visitor to this museum, believe you that the whole history of my country is “abomination and shit”,” the director said.
Summer 2022 to the museum came with a check by employees of the Main Directorate for Combating Extremism of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia (Center “E”). This was due to the likely distribution of extremist literature by the human rights organization Memorial (it was entered by the Ministry of Justice into the register of foreign agents and liquidated).
