The Human Rights Council (HRC) appealed to Olga Yaroslavskaya, Ombudsman for Children in Moscow, in connection with the situation with a girl who signaled for help on Channel One in the Male/Female program. This was announced by a member of the HRC Alexander Brod.
“The case is extraordinary. On camera, the girls show a completely benevolent picture, at the same time, the older sister furtively sends an international universal signal for help. So the reality is not so rosy. I will draw the attention of the Ombudsman for Children in Moscow to this situation,” said Mr. Brod. “RIA News”.
HRC Deputy Chairperson Irina Kirkora said that the signal for help “may be manipulation at the suggestion of adults, but it can also be a really serious problem” when state involvement is necessary in a conflict. She allowed the involvement of law enforcement agencies in the situation.
The release of the program “Male / Female” under the name “Sutyazhniki” was aired on Channel One on June 21. The plot was dedicated to a family in which parents, after a divorce, cannot share custody of their youngest daughter. In the footage of the interview with her daughters, the older girl, telling how she likes living with her mother and sister, stretches out her hand, presses her thumb to her palm and bends it several times. This gesture is considered an international signal for help.
June 22, the day after the release of the program, in Telegram channel “Male/Female” talked about the huge number of calls in connection with the girl’s gesture. The message assured that “the editors of the program have taken all the necessary measures in such situations.” The father of the youngest daughter said “Caution, Moscow”that the situation is under the control of the prosecutor’s office and guardianship authorities. He did not provide other details.
