THE SPORT SCAN – While the Fijians were to put their luggage in Libourne for the 2023 Rugby World Cup, the marriage seems to be complicated after the withdrawal of the Grand Barrail Hotel.

“That’s excellent news. It is the result of 18 months of very hard work by our teams, in partnership with the Hotel du Grand Barrail, whose involvement should be underlined. it is in these words that Philippe Buisson, mayor of Libourne had formalized the announcement last March. But now the deal concluded between the three parties falls apart this Saturday after the hotel’s surprising decision to cancel its participation.

“We had convinced both the France 2023 organizing committee and the Fijian interlocutors of the quality and relevance of our offer”, then recalled Philippe Buisson, mayor of Libourne and president of La Cali.

Unfortunately, a hiccup came to interfere with the tripartite agreement between the City of Libourne (the Jean-Antoine Moueix stadium, the synthetic pitch and La Calinesie), the organizing committee of the 2023 World Cup and the Hotel Grand Barrail in Saint-Émilion. A contract had previously been signed for player accommodation before the hotel group pulled out this week.

“Unfortunately, and for reasons specific to the establishment, the owner of the Grand Barrail hotel has recently decided to withdraw from this contract”, is written in the official statement of the city.

The “Flying Fijians” were however very interested in the quality of Libourne’s infrastructure and the offer offered by the City of Libourne
