The mayor of Yekaterinburg, Alexey Orlov, canceled the fireworks display during the New Year celebrations in the city. He added that budget expenditures will be used to support families, children of participants in a special military operation and gifts to veterans. Mr. Orlov stated this during a speech at the Yekaterinburg City Duma.
“Given the situation of a special military operation, it would be unnecessary to arrange magnificent fireworks at the expense of the budget, I am categorically against it, so we are not doing this. The main emphasis is on supporting families, mobilized children and gifts to our veterans,” he said.
Mr. Orlov noted that completely abandoning New Year’s decorations “would be impolite to residents and children.” “Even during the Great Patriotic War, the city was decorated,” he finished off. According to Mr. Orlov, ice towns will be built in every district of Yekaterinburg and New Year’s events will be held.
Let us remind you, On August 19, the 300th anniversary of the city was celebrated in Yekaterinburg. The celebration ended with a ten-minute fireworks display of 15 thousand salvos over the waters of the City Pond.
