The head of the Moscow region Volokolamsk, Mikhail Sylka, announced his resignation. He reported this in his Telegram channel. He did not give reasons for his resignation.
“Dear Volokolamsk residents! Today I am completing my work as head of the Volokolamsk urban district. You and I worked together, hand in hand, for five years,” wrote Mikhail Sylka.
Volokolamsk is located 92 km from the Moscow Ring Road. 18 thousand people live in the city. Not far from the city there is the Yadrovo landfill.
In March 2018, a release of landfill gas occurred at a landfill. This led to mass poisoning of residents and subsequent mass protests. In the fall of the same year, Mikhail Sylka, who had previously been the Deputy Minister of Ecology of the Moscow Region, was appointed as the new head.
