The head of the union of medical workers said there is a shortage of doctors

Anatoly Domnikov, chairman of the trade union of healthcare workers, estimated the shortage of personnel in Russian medicine at 30%. To combat “professional burnout” that may occur against the backdrop of a shortage of personnel, Mr. Domnikov proposed raising the salaries of medical workers.

“I think 30% or even more specialists (in medical institutions.— “b”) is not enough if in a relative evaluation. In absolute terms, there are about 20 thousand doctors,” said the chairman of the trade union, speaking at a press conference in Ufa (quote from Interfax).

According to Mr. Domnikov, the shortage of personnel causes the second industry problem – “professional burnout”. “If we have a shortage of doctors, it means that as a result there is an overload. Hence the burnout, which only increases,” he specified.

One of the effective measures to address the issue of personnel shortages could be an increase in salaries for employees of medical institutions, Anatoly Domnikov believes. “Measures have come up with a lot. They are very promising, extended in time. Therefore, the most important thing that would help in this situation is an increase in wages,” he said.

Earlier today, November 21, Minister of Health of the Russian Federation Mikhail Murashko declaredthat the situation with personnel in the industry is extremely tense. He noted that at present the government is actively discussing the possibility of increasing the salaries of medical workers. According to Mr. Murashko, in 2022 the government will allocate an additional 59 billion rubles. on salaries to physicians in Russian regions.

In 2021, most regions of Russia also recorded a shortage of doctors. From the data of the Ministry of Health, it follows that last year there was a shortage of 26.4 thousand doctors in the state health care of the Russian Federation.
