Chairman of the State Council of Crimea Vladimir Konstantinov believes that many violations were committed during the transfer of the peninsula to the Ukrainian SSR in 1954. In his opinion, this allows a special working group to submit a request to the Constitutional Court to overturn the decision.

“The notorious transfer of Crimea allowed for a record amount of legal nihilism and ignorance of the legislation in force at that time. I don’t know what prevented this whole procedure from being formalized by law in 1954,” said Mr. Konstantinov “RIA News”. In his opinion, if “legally verified decisions” were made, then the working group would have “nothing to challenge” and there would be no grounds for going to court.

The working group under the State Council of Crimea previously completed preparations request to the Constitutional Court on the conformity of the USSR law on the transfer of the peninsula to Ukraine with the Constitution. It was alleged that violations of the constitutions of the USSR, RSFRS and Ukrainian SSR were revealed.
