The national prosecutor’s office in Spain has opened a pre-trial investigation against the president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Luis Rubiales. He was accused of sexual assault after he kissed the football player of the national team Jennifer Hermoso, reports RTVE.
The prosecutor’s office also offered Jennifer Hermoso to act as a victim of sexual assault, “if she decides to file a formal complaint.” It was decided to contact Hermoso and suggest that she contact the prosecutor’s office within 15 days to learn about her rights as a victim of the alleged attack.
“In light of the public statements made by citizen Jennifer Hermoso Fuentes, the sexual act she underwent, which Mr. Rubiales committed, was without her consent,” prosecutors said.
Recall that during the awarding of the winners of the World Cup, which was held in Australia and New Zealand, Rubiales hugged and kissed Jennifer Hermoso on the lips. Many journalists and fans called this action excessive. FIFA launched a disciplinary investigation against Rubiales. The head of the RFEF apologized for his act, however, at an extraordinary assembly of the federation, Rubiales said that he did not plan to resign and was ready to defend himself in court.
