The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs fired two employees for unreasonable refusal to a blogger from Latvia in asylum

Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev dismissed Igor Dudnik, Deputy Head of the Department for Migration Issues of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for Moscow, and Tatiana Dmitrieva, Head of the Department for Refugees, Temporary Asylum and Forced Migrants of the Department for Migration Issues of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for Moscow. According to Volk, employees were dismissed from their positions “for a formal approach to considering citizens’ applications.”

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, blogger, publicist, Russian-speaking Latvian writer Sergei Vasilyev was forced to leave Latvia due to criminal prosecution in a number of countries for humanitarian and volunteer activities in support of Donbas residents. Upon arrival in Russia, he applied to the Moscow Department of Internal Affairs of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia with a request for temporary asylum in the Russian Federation.

“The audit showed that the statement of Sergei Vasilyev was considered superficially by authorized officials, without taking into account all the circumstances, including the presence of a threat to his life and health in the territory of the state of permanent residence,” the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.

According to her, an “unreasonable decision” was made to refuse Vasilyev’s request. It has now been cancelled, Volk added. The official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs also stated that soon the issue of granting temporary asylum in Russia would be resolved positively.
