The head of the Ministry of Education promised not to cancel social studies in schools – Kommersant

Social studies in schools will not be cancelled, Minister of Education Sergei Kravtsov assured. He clarified that the subject begins in the ninth grade and is a “practice-oriented course, including legal education.”

“Social studies lessons are not going anywhere, our subject “Social studies” remains,” said Mr. Kravtsov in response to a corresponding question at a meeting of the State Duma Committee on Education (quote from “Interfax”).

The minister called for expanding the teaching of history and making this subject “massive for passing the unified state exam.” “Understanding the history of our country, our culture is very important,” Sergei Kravtsov is convinced.

In January became known, that social studies will be taught in schools in high school, and not from the 6th-7th grade, as now. In February, the Ministry of Education suggested increase the number of hours of history study by 1.4 times. In the department assuredthat increasing the number of history lessons will not increase the burden on children.
