Minister of Education Sergei Kravtsov announced the possible renaming of the school subject “Fundamentals of Life Safety” (OBZH). According to him, the lessons include a course of basic military training, but the subject needs to be developed and an appropriate name should be chosen. The Ministry of Education is discussing the title “Fundamentals of Security and Defense of the Motherland.”

The subject of life safety consisted of three sections: safety and protection in emergencies, the basics of medical knowledge and military service. From September 1, 2023, the life safety course will be supplemented with basic military training. This subject was abolished in Russian schools in the early 1990s.
