The Minister of Science and Higher Education of Russia, Valery Falkov, said that in order to obtain in-depth professional knowledge, the term of study in a master’s program in the new education system could be one year, and this is enough.

“In the new system of coordinates, it will be possible, in accordance with the demand of the labor market, to prepare or receive in-depth professional knowledge in a master’s program in a year,” the minister said on the air of the Rossiya-24 TV channel.

According to him, in the new education system there will be an opportunity to study free of charge “in the magistracy, residency or assistantship” and from 600,000 graduates of the specialty.

Falkov noted that the master’s program is not a continuation of the basic higher education, but provides “in-depth specialized knowledge.” “And education should be built on other technologies,” the head of the Ministry of Education and Science said.

He also said that master’s programs should be in those universities that have the appropriate capabilities for this – personnel, organizational, financial and infrastructural.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed returning to the traditional system of training specialists with higher education with a training period of 4 to 6 years. If the profession requires additional training and narrow specialization, then students should have the opportunity to continue their education in the magistracy or residency.
