The head of the Ministry of Education and Science announced fundamental changes in university admission campaigns from 2024

Changes in the rules for conducting admission campaigns to Russian universities will begin in 2024, said the Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation Valery Falkov. In 2023, all events will be held according to established rules.

“This year, graduates will be able to enroll in all those specialties and areas, all those programs that were announced back in the fall of 2022, and there will be no cardinal changes either in terms of the set of the Unified State Exam or in the number of programs … All cardinal changes – they will follow already in admission campaign in 2024,” the minister said at a thematic press conference (quoted from “RIA News”).

At the same time, the Ministry of Education and Science intends to test the new admission system at several universities this year. Mr. Falkov expressed his wish that universities of different specializations from different regions would be included in the project.

In May 2022, the Ministry of Education and Science announced about the withdrawal of Russian universities from the Bologna process, according to which the development of academic qualifications is divided into bachelor’s, master’s and postgraduate studies. February 21, 2023 President Vladimir Putin offered return to the “Soviet” model of graduate training with a term of study of five to six years.

In April, Valery Falkov presented a new domestic system of higher education. Students are also offered three levels of higher education, but without the same terms of study for all programs.
