Russian Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Communications Maksut Shadayev said that the ministry is technically ready to use remote electronic voting technologies (DEG) in the presidential elections in 2024, reports “RIA News” from the CNews publication forum.
“I looked at the statistics on the six heads of regions that were elected. Surprisingly, it is multidirectional: about 780 thousand people cast their votes electronically, remotely. Well, there is quite a lack of priority: somewhere the DEG gave more for the winning candidate, somewhere they voted offline. In this sense, there are no significant distortions from the use of DEG in terms of results. This is an absolutely competitive technology,” said the head of the Ministry of Digital Development about the gubernatorial elections this year.
Deputy Chairman of the Central Election Commission Nikolai Bulaev previously stated that almost 4 million voters are voting on DEG platforms today, and half of them are in Moscow. Turnout in elections in almost all regions of the Russian Federation where DEG was used was higher than during the 2018 campaigns in the same regions, with the exception of the elections for the governor of the Altai Territory.
A Kommersant source close to the presidential administration said that there are some problems with the DEG, primarily in terms of trust in this form of expression of will, because ordinary voters do not fully understand how this system works technically.
