The head of the Ministry of Construction called the dam in Orsk an earthen rampart – Kommersant

Construction Minister Irek Fayzullin, during a visit to the flood-stricken Orenburg region, said that the embankment dam in Orsk is nothing more than an earthen rampart. In his opinion, such a structure cannot cost 1 billion rubles.

“The dam they are talking about in Orsk is not really a dam, a dam is not worth a billion rubles, 10 kilometers… With enormous speed, a huge mass of water pressed on not the dam, but an earthen rampart,” the minister said.

On April 5, a dam in Orsk, protecting the city from the floods of the Urals, burst. Several neighborhoods were in the flood zone, and evacuation began. Today, April 11, the water level in Orsk began to fall. In Orenburg, on the contrary, it is only growing. The head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Alexander Kurenkov, arrived in the region again. A state of emergency at the federal level is in effect in the region.

A few days after the dam broke, the portal msk1.ru reported that the authorities made the decision to build a dam in Orsk in 2010, and the cost of the object, according to his data, amounted to almost 932 million rubles. The then head of Orsk, Viktor Franz, noted that the dam was supposed to protect the city on both sides and forever solve the problem of the threat of flooding during floods.

The general contractor was the Spetsstroy-3 company. After the breach of the protective structure, the director of the company, Sergei Komarov, blamed rodents for it. Governor Denis Pasler asked “don’t look for witches” in the dam breaking story.
