The head of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, called the option of allowing Russians to participate in international competitions, according to him, this can be done without a national identity. This was announced by the head of the press service of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) Sergey Averyanov in his telegram channel.

Bach announced this option at the congress of the International Biathlon Union (IBU). The IBU previously suspended Russian and Belarusian athletes from competitions under its auspices amid the conflict in Ukraine. This decision was made in accordance with the recommendation of the IOC. The IBU Congress on September 15-18 considers these recommendations.

“[Видеообращение Баха] left an ambivalent impression: speaking of Russian and Belarusian athletes, he did not directly say that they should be removed. He even voiced the option of their admission to international competitions without a national identity, ”Averyanov wrote.

He added that, in general, Bach “washed his hands” that the IBU decide this poll on its own.
