The head of the Human Rights Council, Valery Fadeev, believes that popular Western video games require legal analysis and evaluation. He argues that if there are “bad ideas” in the script of a game, then such games should be banned. According to Fadeev, we are talking about video games containing footage of violence and cruelty.
He expressed the opinion that regardless of freedom of speech and other aspects, such video games should be banned and their creators should be punished with fines.
The HRC sees nothing wrong with banning video games, as Russia already has a list of banned books. Despite the ban, books are not burned, Fadeev said. Such statements were made by Fadeev during a round table on the topic “Computer games as a factor in national defense and security” at the Army-2023 forum, RIA Novosti reports.
In July, at a meeting of the Supervisory Board of the ANO “Russia – a Land of Opportunities”, the issue of the development of the Russian gaming industry was discussed. Russian President Vladimir Putin said that video games should help a person develop, find himself and be brought up in accordance with universal human values and patriotism.
