The head of the Human Rights Council (HRC) under the President of Russia, Valery Fadeev, said that children of migrants should not be enrolled in schools without knowledge of the Russian language. In his opinion, they must first take annual language courses. He also said that he opposes the simplified granting of Russian citizenship to those who help restore infrastructure in the Donbass and Russian-controlled territories of Ukraine.
“We also believe that children of migrants who do not speak Russian should not be enrolled in our schools. Otherwise, the teaching of the entire class will be disrupted. Not only Russian children will suffer, but also visitors themselves. What kind of educational process can we talk about if they do not understand anything? Such children should be sent to annual preparatory courses in the Russian language and only after that they should be enrolled in the general class,” said Valery Fadeev (quoted from Telegram channel HRC).
Mr. Fadeev also, on behalf of the HRC, opposed the simplified granting of Russian citizenship to foreigners who are engaged in the restoration of the destroyed infrastructure of Donbass and the territories of Ukraine occupied by Russia. In his opinion, this will lead to “mass flows of builders from Central Asia without knowledge of the Russian language and the laws of the Russian Federation for Russian citizenship.”
Earlier, the Federal Agency for Ethnic Affairs proposed the creation of adaptation centers for migrants in Russia. According to the agency, this will help prevent the isolation of migrants from society. Russian President Vladimir Putin supported this offer.
Last week, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev declaredthat the authorities are preparing a “comprehensive bill” that will consolidate the changes in Russia’s migration policy. In September, Vladimir Putin will hold a meeting of the Security Council dedicated to the problems of regulating the stay of foreigners in Russia.
