Some of the weapons that Germany transferred to Ukraine were outdated or did not work, Berlin previously warned about this. Such a statement did German Foreign Minister Annalena Bärbock in an interview with CNN.

“Some of our systems are already outdated, some we knew from the very beginning that they did not work, and we talked about it,” she said.

Burbock added that one of the reasons why Berlin has not yet transferred Taurus missiles to Kyiv is the need to ensure that the weapons are operational. The minister explained that before transferring weapons, Germany “must clarify all the details.” In this regard, Burbock could not name the timing of missile deliveries to Ukraine.

Kyiv from May asks Berlin to transfer Taurus missiles with a range of up to 500 km. As the media wrote, Berlin purchased about 600 Taurus ten years ago, of which only 150 missiles can now operate. Initially, the German authorities opposed the supply of such missiles to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

However, on August 11, Der Spiegel magazine reported that the German government was studying the possibility of supplying Taurus missiles to Ukraine in the coming months. According to the publication, Chancellor Olaf Scholz wants to technically limit the programming of missiles in order to exclude the possibility of Ukrainian Armed Forces strikes on Russian territory. Russian Ambassador to Germany Sergei Nechaev saidthat the supply of new weapons “only prolongs the conflict and increases the number of victims.”

15 September German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius admitted a decision will be made soon on the transfer of Taurus missiles to Ukraine. Answering the question why Berlin is “hesitating” in the matter of supplying these missiles to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, he explained that Germany needs guarantees that weapons will not be used on Russian territory.
