Former Yerevan mayor Albert Bazeyan was arrested on charges of preparing to usurp power. His lawyer Georgy Melikyan announced this on social networks.

According to him, the investigator’s request to arrest Albert Bazeyan was fully satisfied. The ex-mayor and the head of the volunteer union were accused of preparing for the usurpation of power, including physical destruction.

The lawyer explained that the accusation is based on the testimony of one person. Georgy Melikyan called it groundless.

Previously, the National Security Service of Armenia stated about the detention of eight people on suspicion of preparing for a violent seizure of power. A criminal case has been initiated on this fact.

During the searches, firearms, ammunition and body armor were found on the participants.
