The head of the FAS reported to Putin on the reduction of margins on socially important products to 5.5%

Russian President Vladimir Putin met with the head of the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) Maxim Shaskolsky. During the meeting, Mr. Shaskolsky spoke about the reduction of markups in retail chains for socially important food products from 22% to 5.5%. This was reported in press service Kremlin.

“We have done the work, and as a result, the margins on socially important food products in federal retail chains have decreased from 22 to 5.5 percent. Such responsible pricing was also supported by 79 regional retail chains. In addition, additional work has been carried out in such categories as bread, milk, sugar, borscht, federal retail chains have pledged to maintain a margin of no more than five percent for the most popular goods in each category, ”said Maxim Shaskolsky.

In addition, the FAS has recently issued 35 warnings to restore agricultural producers’ access to budget subsidies. The agency revised 14,000 prices for vital and essential medicines, prices for 7,000 of them were reduced by 35%. Also, prices for some building materials were reduced, which ones are not specified.

At the beginning of November at the FAS reported on reducing margins on socially important goods in Russian retail chains from 22% to 6%. At the end of December, the State Duma also recommended set limits on markups on essential products at a rate of 10-15%. In government are discussing abolition of VAT on socially significant goods.
