The European Union will soon present the next, 12th package of sanctions against Russia, said the President of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen, who arrived on a visit to Kiev on November 4.

“Soon we will propose the 12th package of sanctions. New import and export bans. Actions to tighten oil prices. And we will continue to tighten measures to circumvent sanctions,” she wrote on the social network X.

The head of the EC added that the European Union will continue to “support and promote a just and lasting peace for Ukraine,” and its support is “unshakable.”

At the end of October, von der Leyen following the EU summit in Brussels reported on the preparation of the 12th package of sanctions against Russia, which may also include restrictions on the export of diamonds. These sanctions, as the head of the EC noted, are being prepared in cooperation with the G7 countries.

Bloomberg later wrote that the 12th package could include $5.3 billion in trade restrictions, including on exports of welding machines and chemicals. Bans on software licensing and restrictions on imports of machined metals and aluminum products, construction products, transportation-related products and diamonds are also being considered.

According to the agency, the package of measures is aimed at “depriving Russia of the opportunity to circumvent existing bans through third countries.” It is also expected that more than 100 individuals and four dozen legal entities will be included in the sanctions lists.

After the start of the special operation, the EU introduced 11 packages of sanctions against Russia in addition to the existing restrictions. Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that sanctions pressure on Russia will be continue along with attempts to strengthen it, but the country’s economy is ready for this.
