The head of the Duma committee Kartapolov: the increase in the draft age will not affect those drafted in the spring

Andrei Kartapolov, chairman of the State Duma Committee on Defense, said that the gradual increase in the draft age planned for the next three years would not affect citizens drafted in the spring.
“The bill on a phased change in the age of conscripts cannot be implemented during the spring conscription, so the new conscription will take place in accordance with the current norms and rules that are determined by the current legislation, and no one needs to worry about this,” said Mr. Kartapolov (quoted from “Interfax”).
According to the chairman of the defense committee, the State Duma intends to consider a bill on a phased change in the limits of the military age after April 17. The adoption of the bill is scheduled for the spring session.
“In mid-March, the bill was introduced. But this is a complex bill, because we need to get the opinions of all interested federal executive authorities on it, so we sent it to the mailing list. The deadline for submitting reviews is April 15,” he said.
Bill to raise the age of conscription was introduced to the State Duma on March 13. The authors of the amendments propose to carry out the reform within three years – until 2026. In the period from January 1 to December 31, 2024, citizens aged 19 to 30 will be subject to conscription, from January 1 to December 31, 2025 – from 20 to 30 years, from January 1, 2026 – from 21 to 30 years.
