The head of the capital’s Department of Internal Affairs was convicted of a scam involving a post in the Federal Tax Service

He was given 6 years in prison

The Tagansky Court of Moscow convicted the former head of the Department of Internal Affairs for the Rostokino district, Mikhail Gotsulyak. The police chief and his accomplices were caught in a scam that was not directly related to the colonel’s work. He committed the crime while he was on sick leave.

As MK reported at the time, Gotsulyak was arrested literally three weeks after his appointment to a responsible post. Four other people were detained along with him. They all tried to pull off the classic scam of appointing “their own man” to the position. Gotsulyak promised to help the former employee of the Federal Tax Service for the Samara Region to be restored to his previous position, moreover, in the status of head or deputy head of the Federal Tax Service. He demanded $1 million for this service. Such an impressive fee had to be shared by all participants in the transaction. However, the applicant did not receive any appointment.

Let us note that Gotsulyak himself, while completing this deal, was out of work. Previously, he headed the 3rd police department of the Yekaterinburg Ministry of Internal Affairs, but in 2019 he left the police for health reasons – he was diagnosed with a serious stomach disease. In 2022, the man recovered, and immediately received a solid post in the capital. But he did not have time to prove himself as the head of the Department of Internal Affairs. The court sentenced him to 6 years in a general regime colony; the rest of the bribe-takers received from 4.5 to 5.5 years in prison.
