The head of the apparatus of the United Russia faction in the State Duma left his post

The head of the apparatus of the United Russia faction, Maxim Zhavoronkov, left his post. An interlocutor in the faction told Vedomosti about this. Instead of Maxim Zhavoronkov, this post will be taken by Galina Emelyanova, a longtime ally of the faction leader Vladimir Vasilyev, Vedomosti previously wrote. Zhavoronkov will concentrate on working in the central executive committee of the party, where he holds the position of first deputy leader, the interlocutors said.

The Kommersant newspaper wrote that Zhavoronkov would leave his post, citing its sources. Vedomosti’s interlocutors then said that Emelyanova would take his post in the faction. She worked with Vasiliev in the State Duma Security Committee, which he headed from 2004 to 2011, after he came to the State Duma from the Ministry of Internal Affairs. And when in 2017 he (from the position of faction leader) was appointed acting head of Dagestan, she became his adviser in the region. After Vasilyev left the post of head of the region in 2020 and returned to the State Duma, she also went to work in the lower house.

When Vasiliev headed the Duma faction of United Russia, his man, Vladimir Ivanov, was also the head of the State Duma apparatus. But in 2021, he himself was elected to the State Duma and now leads one of the intra-factional groups of United Russia.

Since 2017, Zhavoronkov has been the first deputy head of the central executive committee of the party, overseeing legal issues. Prior to this, Zhavoronkov worked as vice-governor of the Pskov region, when the region was led by Turchak. And previously he held senior positions in the Leninets holding, the founder of which is Anatoly Turchak, the father of the secretary of the General Council of United Russia.
