The head of Rospotrebnadzor, Anna Popova, at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, said that the wave of coronavirus that first hit Moscow and St. Petersburg is now leaving for the regions.
“And if at the beginning the distribution was in the central part and in the central capital cities – these are Moscow, the Moscow region and St. Petersburg, these were the very first cities, but now there is a decline and the wave goes to the regions,” Popova said (quote according to RIA Novosti).
At the same time, she noted, in the regions there is no mandatory requirement to wear masks. “The subjects recommend wearing masks in public places, but we are not introducing any regulatory rule that would oblige. Today we are engaged in outreach work, and it has an effect, where it is really done,” she said.
A new wave of coronavirus, as reported by the head of Rospotrebnadzor, began in early August. According to her, the period from the beginning of the rise to the peak was “no more than five to six weeks, the course is quite mild.” Over the past day, more than 51.7 thousand new cases of COVID-19 have been detected in Russia.
