The head of Novosibirsk commented on the idea of a thermonuclear explosion over Siberia

The mayor of Novosibirsk, Anatoly Lokot, commented on the statement of the editor-in-chief of the RT television channel, Margarita Simonyan, who the day before spoke about the consequences of nuclear explosions 100 km above Siberia.
“Probably, as a physicist by training, I will comment. The consequences may affect not even hundreds of years, but millennia. Because unstable elements are formed, the half-life of which is hundreds of years, and some even a thousand years. The problem of ground-based thermonuclear tests and any explosions associated with the release of thermonuclear energy, nuclear energy, must be treated very responsibly,” noted Anatoly Lokot.
RT’s editor-in-chief made her statement on Tuesday, October 3. As she explained, “one smart person” (in her words, a radioelectronics engineer) told her that “if you make a thermonuclear explosion hundreds of kilometers away on our territory somewhere over Siberia, then there will be nothing on Earth. Nothing too bad. Not the nuclear winter that everyone is afraid of. Nothing will happen.”
The head of the media added that instead, all equipment will be disabled, so we will return to “some kind of 93rd” year.
“I’ll even be happy. At least I won’t have to explain to my children why everyone has gadgets and they don’t. But at the very least, this will be a weight off our shoulders,” says Margarita Simonyan.
In turn, after this statement, State Duma deputy Maria Prusakova recorded a video message: “We, Siberians, perceived your statement as a deep insult. I would like to remind you that it was thanks to the Siberians, including the Soviet people, that they defeated fascism in the Great Patriotic War. Therefore, at a minimum, you must apologize to the residents of all of Siberia and especially to those who, even today, over the past several decades, have been suffering from the consequences of tests at the Semipalatinsk test site.”
The Kremlin also commented on the words of Margarita Simonyan. “Russia is not going to conduct nuclear tests, discussions about this are impossible,” said the press secretary of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov.
