The head of NASA confirmed the continuation of the operation of the ISS until 2030

The United States intends to continue operating the International Space Station (ISS) until 2030, this has been approved by both the executive and legislative branches of government. This statement was made on Tuesday by the head of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Bill Nelson, reports TASS.

“The Appropriations Act gives us what we have been striving for for years: the extension of the operation of the ISS until 2030,” he said at a meeting of the NASA Advisory Board.

Earlier in the day, US President Joe Biden signed the so-called CHIPS and Science Act of 2022, a bill approved by Congress to allocate $ 280 billion for the development of semiconductor production in the country. Budgetary appropriations for the needs of NASA, in particular, for the extension of the US participation in the ISS program until 2030, were included in the CHIPS and Science Act at the stage of considering a legislative initiative in Congress.

The US intention to continue operating the station until 2030 was announced at the end of July by the head of the American ISS program, Joel Montalbano.

In turn, the head of the Roscosmos state corporation, Yuri Borisov, on July 29 on the Rossiya-24 TV channel noted that the exact time of Russia’s withdrawal from the ISS program would depend on the state of the station.

“After 2024, we start the exit process, whether it will be in the middle of 2024 or in 2025 – it all depends, in fact, including on the state of health of the ISS itself,” he explained.
