The head of Magadan will propose amendments to the local law to euthanize stray dogs

The mayor of the capital, Kolyma, Yuri Grishan, instructed the municipal legal department to prepare amendments to the regional law allowing the euthanization of dangerous stray animals. According to him, since the beginning of the year, the municipality has received more than 100 requests from residents related to stray dogs on the city streets, and the problem was considered at a meeting of the commission for the prevention and response to emergency situations.
With reference to the Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology, Mr. Grishan reports that in January alone, 18 city residents were injured by animals. There is also a known case of a person dying due to a dog attack last summer. “We have been on high alert in connection with this problem for several years. More effective measures are needed. They have been agreed upon with the Association of Municipal Entities of the Magadan Region,” the mayor justified the decision in his Telegram channel.
The contract for catching dogs is valid until the end of the year and costs 6 million rubles. concluded with the public organization “Right to Life”. The relevant departments of the municipality are required to provide assistance to this organization.
The mayor also called on Magadan residents to avoid contact with stray animals, explain this rule to children, and not feed dogs.
