The head of Kalmykia spoke about the modernization of the closed Elista airport

The head of the Republic of Kalmykia, Batu Khasikov, said that the capacity of the Elista airport terminal has been doubled as a result of modernization. The new terminal will be able to accommodate 100 passengers per hour, Mr. Khasikov added. The airport is currently closed due to restrictions imposed in connection with the start of the military operation in Ukraine.
“Despite the fact that the airspace over Elista is closed, today a line has been drawn under all stages of the terminal’s overhaul. The airport will be fully ready to serve passengers at the highest level of service as soon as existing restrictions are lifted,” said the head of Kalmykia at the presentation of the updated terminal (quote from TASS).
As TASS reports, at the beginning of 2023 the airport received a new brand book, an official document that, in particular, describes the concept and attributes of the brand, target audience and positioning of the company. The total area of the new terminal is 2130 square meters. m. The terminal is now accessible to people with limited mobility. As a result of modernization, an automatic block-modular boiler room appeared at the airport, for the construction of which 30 million rubles were allocated, TASS reports.
The modernization began in October 2022, it was carried out by the Big Country Airports company, which owns the Elista airport. The airport’s route network covers five destinations: Moscow, St. Petersburg, Rostov-on-Don, Sochi, and Mineralnye Vody. On February 24, 2022, a ban was introduced on flights to Anapa, Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Gelendzhik, Krasnodar, Kursk, Lipetsk, Rostov-on-Don, Simferopol and Elista. Since then, airport operations have been suspended.
