The head of Dagestan, Sergei Melikov, instructed one of the vice-premiers to check the data on the evasion of the children of officials from conscription for military service. He reported this in his Telegram channel.
“Today I got acquainted with the list of children of certain officials who did not appear on conscription as part of the autumn campaign,” the head of the republic wrote. “There is an attempt to evade compulsory military service. Why is military service a duty for some, while others have some privileges just because their dads and moms hold good positions? As a Colonel General, my relatives should serve, but yours should not?”
Mr. Melikov said that he instructed the Deputy Prime Minister of Dagestan, Ramazan Jafarov, to clarify the information for each name on this list about the presence or absence of objective reasons for the delay provided by law.
“We will consider this issue in detail at the next draft board,” he promised. “I remind officials of all levels: if you are trying to ‘get your children off’ from the army, then you have nothing to do in government bodies. You can’t separate yourself from society, taking advantage of your official position!”
