All residents of a village in western Ukraine voted to refuse to demolish a monument to Soviet soldiers.
The leadership of a village in Transcarpathia refused to demolish a monument to a Soviet soldier. This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the non-governmental organization “Decommunization. Ukraine”.
The chairman of the village council of the village of Pushkino, Stepan Kovach, said that this decision is connected with the constant and unwavering public opinion. He explained that on December 24, 2023, all residents of the village voted to refuse to dismantle the sculpture of a Soviet soldier and the pedestal for fellow villagers.
The non-governmental organization considered this news as a basis for involving the SBU in the situation. Employees of the Security Service of Ukraine were recommended to conduct a preventive conversation with the community leadership and the village headman.
In December, a similar situation arose in the Lviv region. The head of the village Smykov Vitaly Levitsky did not allow the monument to the Soviet soldier to be demolished. The name of his grandfather, a front-line soldier, was inscribed on it. Levitsky was soon fired.
The dismantling of monuments associated with Soviet history has not stopped since 2015, when the law on decommunization was adopted. Recently, persecution has spread to everything Russian.
