The head coach of the Russian women’s weightlifting team left his post

Gennady Anikanov left his position as head coach of the Russian women’s weightlifting team. This was announced by the President of the Russian Weightlifting Federation (FTAR) Maxim Agapitov.
“Gennady Viktorovich Anikanov is now retired, but he will be involved in working with the national team whenever possible and if necessary,” Mr. Agapitov told TASS.
Mr. Anikanov is 65 years old. He has been the head coach of the Russian women’s weightlifting team since January 2019.
From 2024, the team will be led by senior coach Viktor Karpunenko. The men’s team will be led by senior coach Rim Sirazetdinov. Ibrahim Samadov, who coached the main team, will work with the youth team (under 24 years old).
On December 8, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced the admission of Russians to the Games in Paris in a neutral status. To participate, athletes must sign several new agreements. The Russian Olympic Committee has not yet decided whether to agree to the IOC’s terms.
