The current Mir-RPL season has become the second when the best Russian teams play not for the right to qualify for prestigious European tournaments, but for replenishment of museums and prize money from the RFU, which, when compared with European cups, is very small. All this happened due to the suspension of the Russian national team and domestic teams from competitions under the auspices of FIFA and UEFA.
The removal of Russian football from international competitions caused an outflow of high-level foreign players from Mir-RPL, who viewed the Russian Championship as a springboard for moving to a higher level. The situation worsened when FIFA allowed players to unilaterally terminate contracts with Russian clubs and leave without paying penalties or compensation.
Igor Kolyvanov shared his opinion on the current level of Mir-RPL.
“I don’t think the level has decreased. Plus or minus is the same as four years ago. It’s clear that you always want to see high-class foreigners, so that other football players will be drawn to them and grow. For objective reasons, they cannot be invited yet. It’s a pity that we We don’t play qualifying matches for international tournaments, the Champions League and the Europa League,” Kolyvanov said.
