In mid-December, the first part of the 2023-2024 season in the Russian Football Championship among Mir-RPL teams ended. Last season, Paris NN players performed extremely poorly and were unable to automatically retain their place in the elite of Russian football. The team from Nizhny Novgorod took 13th place and qualified for the play-offs, where they were stronger than the Moscow Rodina, defending their place in the Mir-RPL. During the first part of this season, the Nizhny Novgorod team completely “rebooted” and threw off the title of outsider, settling in 9th place after 18 matches played.
Sergei Nikolaevich Yuran changed everything. The domestic specialist took charge of Paris NN in April and immediately began to change the philosophy of the club, which had previously been the opposite of the set of players assembled in Nizhny Novgorod. Artem Gorlov tried to play attacking football, which brought results only in matches with weaker teams, and Yuran began to focus on defense and the strengths of the majority of players. This led to successful matches; the right tactics allowed Paris NN to gain a foothold in the middle of the standings and consistently gain points.
Head coach of FC Paris Nizhny Novgorod Sergei Yuran spoke about the philosophy of the club.
“We also have a system, and everyone in this system must work, perform their functions on the field – run, insure. Only then will it work. Yes, maybe I don’t like this kind of football either. This is dominance, ball control. But we are not ready for this yet. I don’t yet have players who could play beautiful football,” said Sergei.
