International Monetary Fund (IMF) official Julie Kozak said that the Russian economy surprised experts with the pace of its development. She explained this result by the large volume of military spending, which stimulated production growth.
Journalist at a regular briefing TASS asked an IMF official to comment on the impact of Western sanctions on the Russian economy. “The Russian economy has truly surprised us with the strength of its growth. It is obvious that Russia now has a war economy. This is due to the fact that there is a large amount of military spending in the economy, which contributes to increased production,” said Julie Kozak, noting the rate of growth in consumption in the country.
According to the IMF, in 2024 the Russian economy will increase by 2.6%. IMF First Deputy Managing Director Gita Gopinath in February statedthat the Russian economy is firmly “in the territory of positive growth.”
