The State Duma of the Russian Federation adopted resolutions on the establishment of a new departmental award – the Stanislav Govorukhin medal. It is reported that no more than 10 people a year will be awarded such a medal for services in the field of culture, humanitarian activities, and also in patriotic education. Both Russian and foreign citizens can be awarded.

The resolution states that the award will be presented by the Chairman of the State Duma and that repeated awards are not provided. The medal should be worn on the right side of the chest and below the state awards of the Russian Federation.

Director and screenwriter Stanislav Govorukhin was a State Duma deputy in 1994-2003 and 2005-2018. In 2000, he ran for president of the Russian Federation and received less than 1% of the vote. After the elections, Govorukhin stated that Vladimir Putin, who won the elections, owes his success to the “slave psychology of the people.” “Show him (the people) the new king, he will vote for him,” the deputy said. He also stated that “Putin will protect the interests of the oligarchs, not the people.”

At the same time, in 2005, Govorukhin joined United Russia, and in 2011, at the party congress, he made a proposal to support Putin’s new presidential nomination. In the same year, Govorukhin headed Putin’s election headquarters.
