Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov is unaware of the facts of betrayal of the homeland by Olympic champion Elena Isinbayeva. A Kremlin representative told reporters about this.
Peskov was asked to comment words President of the Russian Ski Racing Federation Elena Vyalbe that “first you cry on the president’s chest, and then you sell your homeland,” meaning Isinbayeva.
“I wouldn’t comment here, because I’m not familiar with any facts about Isinbayeva going through her homeland. I don’t know about them. Therefore, I cannot comment on anything,” Peskov explained.
Peskov also doubted that the Kremlin, “not knowing the details,” needs to comment on Isinbayeva’s statement that her rank of major is only nominal.
In July, on her social networks, Isinbayeva announced that from September 2023 she would resume her activities in the International Olympic Committee (IOC), of which she has been a member since 2016. She emphasized that at the moment the IOC “has no doubts” and “no doubt what articles and sanctions” it does not fall under. The athlete noted in her statement that until 2018 she played for CSKA and was awarded high awards and titles that are “nominal in nature,” and she herself was never in the service, was not a deputy or a member of any party.
The IOC confirmed that it has no claims against Isinbayeva, since she “had no contractual ties with the Russian armed forces or security agencies and did not support military actions in Ukraine.”
Earlier, Peskov called remember merits of the athlete, adding that she did not condemn or criticize anything, although the sports community reacts harshly to her statement.
