Governor of the Kurgan region Vadim Shumkov warned residents of Kurgan about the increased flow of water in the Tobol River. The river level has been rising by 20 cm over the past two hours and has almost reached 5 m. The head of the region again called on residents to immediately evacuate.
On the morning of April 14, the head of the Kurgan region reported that the level of the Tobol River in Kurgan had risen overnight by 54 cm and was already almost 5 m. At 6 m, flooding of the right bank of the Tobol and the low part of the left bank would begin, the governor indicated. “For the last two hours, water has been added 20 cm at a time. The current has noticeably increased. The water came to the city. Now the water level will only rise due to the overflow of the mass of the flood head. The floodplain is very wet,” the message says. The governor warned that in order to avoid accidents and breakdowns in Kurgan, the supply of electricity and gas would be forced to be cut off. He once again called on residents of areas falling into the flood zone to evacuate. “Take your relatives, valuables, documents and leave immediately, otherwise you may not make it in time due to the overflow of roads,” he added.
According to Vladislav Shumkov, several dozen temporary accommodation centers have been deployed in Kurgan, and several shelters for pets and parking lots for cars have also been prepared.
Due to floods in the Kurgan region, a regional emergency situation was introduced. According to forecasts from the main department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, 62 settlements, 4.3 thousand houses, 5.5 thousand household plots, and 600 summer cottages may be flooded in the region. Potentially, almost 19 thousand people could be in the flood zone. According to the latest data, 304 residential buildings and 473 household plots have already been flooded in the region, more than 7.1 thousand people have been evacuated. The peak flood in Kurgan, according to forecasts, will occur on April 14–15.
