In the autumn of 2022, a mass death of wild animals and birds, which are listed in the Red Book, occurred in the Stavropol Territory. As it turned out later, the cause of death was zinc phosphide. At a press conference in TASS, the governor of the Stavropol Territory, Vladimir Vladimirov, commented on the incident.
“A very warm winter last year provoked the appearance of a large number of rodents. Farmers had nowhere to go, so they began to use banned poisonous substances to control rodents. It is unlikely that it will end in criminal cases, but in the future we plan to apply the experience of fighting locusts: to purchase the necessary drugs for public money and develop measures to combat rodents,” the governor said.
