The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection plans to suspend a pilot project to attract citizens of Uzbekistan to Russian construction sites, launched in October 2021. As part of the program, the procedures for processing documents for work were transferred to Uzbekistan, however, the abolition of anti-COVID restrictions on border crossings made the continuation of the program inappropriate, the government believes.
“Suspend the Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation dated October 6, 2021 No. 1694 “On the implementation of a pilot project to attract citizens of the Republic of Uzbekistan to carry out temporary labor activities with Russian legal entities engaged in economic activities in the fields of construction, light industry and agro-industrial complex””, – the document of the Ministry of Labor says (quote from “RIA News”).
The Ministry of Construction and Housing and Public Utilities emphasized that the department also participated in the study of the issue of suspending the project. As part of the pilot project, 4,750 citizens of Uzbekistan came to Russian construction sites.
Earlier, Deputy Minister of Construction Nikita Stasishin said that about 65% of migrants were not allowed into Russia under the program to import builders from Uzbekistan to Russia.
