Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal has submitted to the Verkhovna Rada a bill prepared on behalf of President Volodymyr Zelensky aimed at banning the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
The bill amends the current legislation of Ukraine and states that it is impossible for religious organizations to operate in Ukraine if their governing center is located in a state that “carries out armed aggression against Ukraine.”
Accordingly, if the Ukrainian authorities come to the conclusion that the UOC is connected with Russia, it may be banned, since Kyiv officially calls Russia an “aggressor country.”
Recall that recently the SBU conducted searches in the temples of the UOC throughout the country, several priests were charged with treason, and sanctions were imposed on 17 representatives of the UOC.
