Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said that the government is not considering the possibility of banning the export of diesel fuel. According to him, the situation with diesel is stable. Mr. Novak called the ban on gasoline exports from March 1 a “preventive measure” that can be lifted if the market becomes saturated.

“Diesel is produced in the country twice as much as it is consumed, the situation here is stable, the supply schedule to agricultural producers and regions (is carried out – Kommersant) according to consumer requests,” Mr. Novak told reporters (quoted by TASS).

Alexander Novak noted that today there are no shortages in the domestic oil products market. According to him, the export ban measure will apply only to motor gasoline. “Given the increase in demand that is expected in the spring and summer, in conditions where one of the refineries is shut down for emergency repairs, the need for an export ban is due to the fact that the measure should increase efficiency and supply additional volumes of gasoline to the domestic market to ensure market balancing,” concluded Deputy Prime Minister

On February 27, a representative of Deputy Prime Minister Novak announced that from March 1, gasoline exports would be banned in Russia for six months. According to him, such a measure will help offset the increase in demand in the spring and summer, as well as during scheduled refinery repairs. The restriction will not affect the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union, South Ossetia, Abkhazia, Mongolia and Uzbekistan. In addition, the government plans to increase the standard for diesel sales on the stock exchange to 16% to compensate for the increase in demand for gasoline.
