The government has increased the share of subsidizing the costs of businesses and citizens to transfer vehicles from gasoline to methane. Now the authorities will pay 48% of such expenses instead of 24% previously. It is expected that such a decision will stimulate the transition from gasoline to methane, as well as stimulate this type of fuel.

Relevant decree signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin. Changes are being made to one of the annexes to the state program “Energy Development”, adopted in 2018.

According to “Autostat” as of April 2022, 84% of car owners used the gasoline type of engine, diesel fuel (more than 10%) holds the second place in popularity, gas (about 5%) is in third place.

At the end of July, gasoline prices grew against the backdrop of a reduction in production at Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat and the Surgut Condensate Stabilization Plant. This fuel increases the overhaul period of the engine and the service life of the oil by one and a half to two times, and spark plugs by 40%. The toxicity of exhaust gases (CO) is reduced by two to three times. The purchase and installation of gas equipment for propane costs 70–80 thousand rubles, for methane – 120–130 thousand rubles.

In January of this year, the Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy proposed The Ministry of Energy will simplify the process of transferring cars to gas fuel by reducing the number of approvals from the traffic police for car owners. However, independent experts said that when implementing this decision, there will be a shortage of testing laboratories where an examination of conversion to gas fuel is carried out.
