The Russian government has prepared a response to the bill, according to which it is proposed to establish December 31 as a non-working holiday, while maintaining the total number of such days established by the Labor Code of the Russian Federation. The Cabinet did not support this bill.
The recall states that December 31, 2022 fell on a Saturday, and December 31, 2023 fell on a Sunday, and therefore will be a non-working day. The government also reminded that in 2018 the day off was moved from Saturday, December 29, to Monday, December 31.
According to the explanatory note, the government considers it appropriate to continue to decide whether December 31 will be a holiday “on a case-by-case basis” each year.
