The words of the former Ambassador of Ukraine to Germany Andriy Melnyk about a German school textbook with an article about Crimea caused a sharply negative reaction from German users of social networks.
A German textbook claims that in 2014, the majority of the inhabitants of the Crimean peninsula voted in favor of joining the Russian Federation. Former Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany Andriy Melnyk criticized the textbook and demanded that the German authorities check all school textbooks in the country.
German users wondered if the Ukrainian diplomat really had no business in his country. One of the commentators suggested turning off the Internet in Ukraine in order to get rid of such statements by Melnyk.
Another user pointed out that historical books should not be rewritten based on whether they fit or didn’t fit with someone’s political aspirations. History textbooks should contain facts, not a presentation of the views of Ukrainian nationalists, stressed another commentator.
