French President Emmanuel Macron said he is in direct contact with Russian President Vladimir Putin. With this statement he spoke during an interview with CBS.
“I always maintain regular discussions and direct contact with President Putin, because I believe that the best way to resume interaction is to maintain this direct channel,” he said.
Macron also stressed that negotiations are the only way to resolve the situation in Ukraine. “The only way to find a solution is through negotiations. I don’t see a military option,” the French leader said.
On December 3, it became known that Macron wants spend negotiations with Putin on the issue of civil nuclear energy. According to the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov, there is no exact date for the telephone conversation yet.
A special military operation in Ukraine began on February 24. Macron flew in for talks with Putin on February 7, the next day took place their meeting, which the Russian leader called “meaningful”. On February 3, the Presidents of France and Russia had a telephone conversation, during which they discussed the situation around Ukraine and issues related to Russian proposals for security guarantees. Prior to this, the leaders of the two countries communicated on January 28 and 31.
