Deputy Chief of the Main Organizational and Mobilization Directorate of the General Staff of the RF Armed Forces Vladimir Tsimlyansky held a briefing on the topic of the beginning of the autumn conscription of citizens. Among other things, he emphasized that the General Staff has no plans to carry out “additional mobilization activities.”
“Those who wish to enter military service under a contract and have entered into contracts for military service in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, as well as volunteers who have decided to participate in a special military operation, are sufficient to complete the assigned tasks,” said Rear Admiral Tsimlyansky during a briefing (quote from press service Ministry of Defense).
According to him, recently the number of citizens who have decided to voluntarily enroll in military service under a contract has increased significantly. To receive them, the Ministry of Defense expanded the network of points for selecting citizens for military service, and also increased the number of instructors.
Previously, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev saidthat from the beginning of the year to September 26, more than 325 thousand people were accepted into service in the interests of the Joint Group of Forces. President Vladimir Putin also said in mid-September that 1,000–1,500 volunteers were signing up daily. He emphasized that this distinguishes Russia from Ukraine, in which mobilization is of a violent nature.
Back in March 2023, Bloomberg, citing “sources familiar with the planning,” wrote that the Russian authorities had decided to abandon the mobilization. Instead, they planned to recruit 400 thousand volunteers by the end of the year.
